Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost wins International Engine of the Year again

The Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost has been named the International Engine of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Ford’s direct-injection turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine achieved the highest score in the history of the award, and beat Volkswagen’s 1.4-litre four-cylinder twincharger petrol engine and BMW’s 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder petrol to claim the title.

The three-cylinder turbo unit will debut in Australia in the Fiesta and EcoSport in the final quarter of this year.

To meet demand, Ford has confirmed it is doubling production of the engine at its Cologne Engine Plant in Germany from mid August to manufacturer more than 1000 engines per day.
