Another day, another 2015 Ford Falcon teaser image. But this time there is a performance edge, with the returning XR8 hero car the subject matter.
The third instalment of Ford Australia’s drip-feed campaign leading up to the reveal of the upgraded FGIII (or perhaps FH) Falcon later this year was released on social media this morning.
While the previous two images gave a sneak-peek of the headlight and tail-light, this latest offering shows off the redesigned XR8 badge and the honeycomb grille to which it is affixed.
The revived XR8, which takes over where the soon-to-be-axed FPV brand will leave off, is to be positioned as a hero of the range, much in the way Holden’s SS and Redline models are positioned as leaders of the VF Commodore range.
It is not confirmed, but expect the guts of the outgoing FPV GT, including its 335kW supercharged V8 — up 45kW over the last atmo XR8 sold in 2010 — Brembo brakes and re-jigged suspension to feature on the new, and final, XR8.
The return of the XR8 also comes at an opportune time for Ford to tap into latent demand for hot and affordable V8 Falcons. Remember, the 550-unit strong FPV GT F 351 swansong for Ford’s local performance arm sold out in no time flat after being announced in May this year.
